SUN VILLAGE, Los Angeles County — The public artwork “The Light of Many Suns” at Jackie Robinson Park honors the people who turned land into a shared place for recreation and cultural gatherings.
Los Angeles County’s public announcement describes a mural by artist April Banks that celebrates the Civic Women’s Club of Sun Village. Club members organized fundraising and helped acquire land that eventually became a county park, overcoming obstacles faced by the community during decades of discriminatory housing practices.
Where to see it
The mural is associated with Jackie Robinson Park, 8773 E. Avenue R. Visitors should check current hours and any facility closures. The mural is a piece of existing community heritage, not a new November 2026 unveiling.
The park’s community-centered history provides an entry point for residents interested in local archives and volunteering.
